  • Randall’s Listening Lab http://www.esl-lab.com/ This site has all kinds of listening quizzes for you to learn from. They are grouped as “easy’, “medium”, “difficult”, “academic”, “long conversations”, and “short exercises”. There is something for everyone. You need to have RealPlayer to use this site.
  • Elllo: ELLLO is a free online listening resource of over 1,000 listening activities designed especially for ESL and EFL students and teachers. Most listening activities include images, an interactive quiz, transcript of the audio and downloadable MP3. http://www.elllo.org/
  • Readable Blog: This blog exists to help adult English language learners improve their English skills. All kinds of things: news articles, downloadable MP3s of English stories, tips for good writing, websites with grammar quizzes, and lots more. http://www.readableblog.com/
  • Voice of American News http://www.voanews.com/newsnow/ Here you can listen to and read current news reports. You will need RealPlayer to listen to the reports.
  • The Learning Edge Newspaper http://thewclc.ca/edge/ This site is for adult learners at the beginning/intermediate level. It is an interactive newspaper.

  • Takako's Great Adventure http://international.ouc.bc.ca/takako/ This site provides a 10-episode story of a Japanese girl and her adventures after leaving home. Students are able to listen to parts of the story, print out activity worksheets, click on the story vocabulary to learn and understand word meanings, word order exercises and multiple choice questions.

For Fun Activities in English:
  • ESL Movie Guides If you enjoy movies, this site is for you. The creator of this site, Raymond Wechsler, has written guides to about 50 enjoyable movies. Each guide contains a summary of the movie, the actors and actresses, and about 15 pages of important lines and vocabulary with the definitions included. It is quite a resource.
  • PBS Kids Games and stories for kids, but also for some adults.
